I simply cannot live without my Palm PDA (Tungsten C). Not only do I keep all of my names, addresses and phone numbers on it, I keep all of my appointments on it as well. Over the last few years, I've found some indispensible programs especially suited photographers that I would like to share with you.
SunCalc
is a sunrise/sunset calculator which is perfect when you're on the road and
need to know when you need to be up and out in time for those sunrise shoots
on location. It's very easy to use. SunCalc calculates sunrise, noon, sunset,
and twilight times for any date from 1000 BC to 3000 AD. There are numerous
cities already entered for you. If you don't see your city entered, all you
have to do is enter the latitude and longitude before you arrive at your destination
and you're set. I've found this to be a great tool! Runs on
Palm OS 3.0 and higher.
Back in the "good ole days" of manual focus lenses, it wasn't too hard to
figure out the depth of field as this this was usually right on the lens. The
new lenses of today do not have this feature. This Depth of Field Calculator
can really come in handy if you are doing any type of macro or landscape photography.
Even with a depth of field preview and a preview on the back of your digital
camera, I still like to check to take a quick look at this handy calculator
and make sure everything I want in focus will be in focus. Pretty darn cool!
Runs on Palm OS 2.0 and higher.
While this program is not directly related to photography, it's the ultimate
PIM combining four
programs - Address, Date Book, To Dos, and Email/SMS. Agendus Professional
into one. I particularly like the way I can assign different icons to different
events, dates, projects. This way, I can glance at my calendar when set to
month view and easily see what I have scheduled when. I suggest you download
a trial version and try it out and see why I can't live without it!
I've saved one of my favorite programs for last.
WorldMate Pro is a tool I use almost on a daily basis. From checking
the weather to calculating a tip in a restaurant, WorldMate Pro is a handy
tool.
You can download flight schedules from OAG, weather forecastsfrom The Weather Channel. It has an Itinerary manager, tip and tax calculator, day/night map, world clock, up-to-date currency exchange rates, currency and metric conversions, international dialing codes, packing list and more. If you travel a lot, you'll find it really comes in handy.
